CONGRATULATIONS HUDSON’S BANANAS FOR REACHING THE GRAND CHAMPIONS CLUB!

The Walk for Apraxia is the largest fundraising and awareness event supporting the children, our Apraxia Stars, affected by childhood apraxia of speech. Walk teams who participate and raise $5,000 or more are recognized as part of the Grand Champions Club, receiving specialized benefits as a thank you for all of their dedication and hard work. This kind of fundraising allows Apraxia Kids to explore more support options offered to families and professionals and helps sustain our mission. A growing number of Walk for Apraxia teams continue to reach this special milestone and touch our hearts with their stories.

Team Hudson’s Bananas is a Grand Champions Club member and walked as participants of the 2020 Hershey Virtual Walk for Apraxia to celebrate their Apraxia Star, Hudson Heath. Throughout 2020, this team has been able to raise an astounding $5,868.00! Apraxia Kids had the opportunity to interview the team captain, Lindsay Heath, to discuss this achievement.

Apraxia Kids: Tell us about your team and who will walk with you at the Virtual Walk for Apraxia.

Lindsay Heath: Hudson’s Bananas is a team of love and, of course, the love of bananas for Hudson Heath! We held our own mini walk, and we had such an ambit of people show up! Hudson and our family have been shown so much love and support. It’s been amazing.

Apraxia Kids: What methods did you use to fundraise and become a Grand Champion member?

Lindsay Heath: I used social media! I also made an Instagram account a while back called Hudson’s Apraxia Journey! Instead of just posting a link to a funding page, I believe people like to see what they are raising money for and the vulnerable side. Showing Hudson’s progression of speech and development over the years has genuinely touched people in a way I didn’t know would. I’ve had so many people come up to me saying they love when I post videos or a post about Hudson. They feel connected to him.

Apraxia Kids: How would you inspire others to try and become either a Champions Club or Grand Champion member?

Lindsay Heath: I would say, be vulnerable! Share videos of your star! Share stories about your child. These stories may be challenging and emotional, but someone will relate and be so thankful for you.

Becoming a Grand Champions Club member is an incredible achievement! Thank you, team Hudson’s Bananas. You have genuinely impacted the way Apraxia Kids can support children, families, and professionals affected by childhood apraxia of speech.
