CONGRATULATIONS CHRISTINA BAYS, MS, CCC-SLP!

Congratulations to Christina Bays, MS, CCC-SLP, for graduating from the Apraxia Kids Intensive Training Institute (Apraxia Boot Camp)!

I work for the San Diego Unified School District as the CAS Resource Center Coordinator. I started working in this position in 2016. I assist SLPs with their assessment and treatment for our students who have CAS or suspected CAS. I also have students with CAS on my caseload at my school. I am available to work privately with children with CAS who are not registered at San Diego Unified, in person/in the child’s home and/or via telehealth.

Christina offers services in San Diego, California.

Apraxia Kids: What are the top 3 things you learned from this training experience?
Christina: I have learned more advanced and detailed ways to use dynamic assessment between speech sound disorders. I have learned new treatment techniques. I have learned specific ways to track and show progress over time for children with CAS.

Apraxia Kids: How did the boot camp experience change or expand your network of colleagues/friends?
Christina: I have met many SLPs who have a strong interest in CAS from across the US and Canada. I have bonded with other California SLPs and we plan to collaborate in the future.

Apraxia Kids: How have you implemented the knowledge you gained at boot camp?
Christina: I have used specific assessment protocols that I’ve learned with my students. I have created new charts and data collection sheets based on the new information.

Apraxia Kids: What is an example of how you have been able to (or plan to) use your expertise as a local resource/support for other professionals and/or families since attending the intensive training?
Christina: I have offered trainings to our district SLPs, and plan to continue presenting these trainings each school year.

Apraxia Kids: What would you say to someone considering applying to boot camp next round?
Christina: I would say that there is a lot of work involved, however, all the work is worth it if you are passionate about learning more about CAS.
