05 Aug Back to School 2025
Summer might be coming to a close and we are so excited to see what our Apraxia Stars can accomplish this school year!
Everyone’s educational journey is unique so we have gathered a list of a few tools that can help you and your child as you navigate the new school year together.
NEW THIS YEAR – Supportive Schools List: These schools/programs provide a range of specialized programs and supports for students with learning disabilities, dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, issues with focus and executive function, motor challenges, motor speech and language disorders, and more: https://www.apraxia-kids.org/supportive-schools-list/
Library Be the Voice Kit: Consider donating this kit to your child’s school library to help others learn about apraxia of speech. This kit includes the “I Want to Be Your Friend” book with a lesson plan, the “CAS What’s That” flyer to hang in your library, a Parent Portal flyer to share with other parents looking to learn more about CAS, bookmarks, and activity pages! Order yours today: https://www.apraxia-kids.org/be-the-voice-request-a-donation-library-kit/
IEP Roadmap: This tool developed by Apraxia Kids provides detailed information to help you become your child’s best advocate and navigate the IEP process, whether it’s your first or tenth time. Learn more here: https://www.apraxia-kids.org/iep-roadmap/
Be The Voice Classroom Kit: Support a child with CAS by helping their peers and professionals at school understand apraxia. Check out the Apraxia Kids Classroom Awareness Kit available with activities and information for students and teachers. Order yours today: https://www.apraxia-kids.org/be-the-voice-request-a-classroom-awareness-kit/
Downloads and Printables: We also have printable letters for teachers, flyers for classrooms, and more for you to download and distribute to your child’s school to help your child’s classmates and teachers learn about apraxia! Download them here: https://www.apraxia-kids.org/downloads-and-printables/
Walk for Apraxia: A great way to raise awareness for CAS is to invite your child’s class to participate in the 2024 Walk for Apraxia! Sharing the Walk for Apraxia with your community allows more people to understand CAS and the incredible amount of effort that our Apraxia Stars put in each and every day. Invite them to celebrate your Apraxia Star’s hard work and honor them on walk day! Find your local Walk for Apraxia here!
Online Support Group: Another great resource is other parents! Join one of our Facebook Support groups to ask any question you might have while navigating back to school season! Not only do we have an Official Support group with over 34,000 members, we also have numerous state groups where you may find a family in your area experiencing a similar journey. We also have a group for parents who are homeschooling this year! Find your group here: https://www.apraxia-kids.org/how-to-help/support-groups-2/
NEW THIS YEAR – Star Supporters Live Support Group: This group is for adults 18+ who support Apraxia Stars and adults living with CAS. Join us for open conversations to make friends, get ideas, ask questions and learn how to best support your Apraxia Star. Our next two discussions (August 10th and September 14th will be back to school focused). Register today: https://www.apraxia-kids.org/how-to-help/live-support-groups/
Peer-to-Peer Support Group for Tweens and Teens: We recently partnered with Elina Csapo from Young Able Voices to create a zoom support group for tweens/teens ages 12+! This is a great way for Apraxia Stars to connect with each other and make new friends that are on the same journey! Sign up your teens/tweens today!
Dynamic Star Duos: We are launching a brand new support group for children 12 and younger and their parents. This safe space is intended to give children a place to hang out with other kids with apraxia, talk, play games, or just listen. Parents attend to help their child feel comfortable.
