In my sessions, speech therapy looks and feels like play with a purpose. Because Childhood Apraxia of Speech is a motor-planning challenge, I use the Principles of Motor Learning, which means I use specific types of practice and feedback to ensure that new skills are truly mastered and carry over into everyday life. My approach is highly individualized - I implement DTTC (Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing), a flexible approach that provides just the right amount of support as your child learns to sequence sounds. As a PROMPT-trained clinician, I can provide hands-on tactile cues for children that might need additional support. I prioritize functional, power words that your child actually needs to navigate their daily life. By focusing on vocabulary that matters in their world, I bridge the gap between therapy and home, ensuring they can communicate across all conversational settings. My ultimate mission is to build a confident, empowered communicators who feels successful and heard in every environment!
I believe that parent partnership is the cornerstone of successful therapy! Parents are encouraged to actively observe and participate in every session, ensuring you feel confident in the "why" and "how" behind our work. Together, we will select target words that are functional and highly motivating for your child’s daily life. I provide home-programming rooted in the principles of motor learning. Committing just 5–10 minutes of daily practice at home will significantly accelerate your child’s progress and ensure new skills carry over into the real world.
I believe every child deserves a functional way to communicate, especially when verbal expression is not yet a reliable or sufficient tool. For children with CAS, I like to utilize AAC to provide children with a reliable voice while verbal skills are developing. I am experienced in navigating the entire process, from selecting the right system to navigating funding through insurance. My focus is on implementing these tools across all environments—not just in the therapy—to ensure your child can express their needs, thoughts, and personality while we continue to work on their motor speech skills.
