Through a team approach, patients receive support growing their motor speech skills and overall communication skills. I implement motor-based interventions that follow the principles of motor learning to help patients learn and apply new speech skills in and outside of therapy. Parent education and collaboration is key to patient success. I actively involve my parents in learning and implementing home programming. I work closely with colleagues who specialize in AAC, Reading and Written Language Disorders, and Developmental Coordination Disorder to ensure patients needs are comprehensively assessed and treated. I actively advocate for increased access to intervention services that meet current research's recommended treatment dosage. Together, we can meet your child where they are at, and help them grow in confidence as a communicator.
From the beginning, Parents are the experts of their children, and are included as an expert during the assessment and treatment planning process. Once a plan of care is set, parents participate in room every session. They actively engage in observing and trialing motor-based interventions to gain confidence for home practice. I answer questions throughout sesssions and provide additional parent-friendly resources as needed. I am available outside of office hours to provide support as needed. Concerns are met with curiosity and a "next steps" mindset.
Patients with CAS deserve access to AAC devices at any stage of their journey. AAC can reduce frustration, support language growth, and improve access to joyfully socializing with others. Low tech AAC (static core boards, aided language boards, etc.) and high tech AAC (speech generating devices from a variety of vendors) are accessible on-site to trial. I work closely with AAC specialists with experience trialing and applying for high-tech devices for children with CAS
