Depending on each individual child and the severity of their CAS I will either use Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing (DTTC) or Rapid Syllable Transition Training (ReST). I am able to use either treatment approach in combination with other approaches to treat other speech/language needs as needed. While these are the Apraxia treatment approaches that I am trained in, I am flexible in what I use as motivators throughout any given session depending on the interests and needs of each child.
I love when the parents I work with are interested in learning more about what we are doing. Parents are always welcome to join us in our speech sessions either virtually or in person. Parents can have the opportunity to observe sessions, learn about what we are doing, and learn how to do DTTC with their child themselves for carryover. I am always available to communicate with parents about everything we do via email, and I can always schedule phone calls or Google meets to talk more as well. When doing DTTC, I obtain many of my target words from parents who tell me what words would be important to their child and their family.
For my students who have low intelligibility, AAC devices are used to support communication and reduce frustration. AAC is supported and encouraged as needed throughout our school building with many of our staff being competent in AAC support.
