At Sunshine Speech Buds, therapy for Childhood Apraxia of Speech is fun, engaging, and purposefully structured to support strong motor learning. As a PROMPT certified clinician, I use a very hands-on approach (literally!) to help your child learn the movement patterns needed for clear, confident speech. I begin by building a trusting relationship and learning what motivates your child, because connection and joy are at the heart of meaningful progress!
Sessions include a warm-up with target words, followed by focused practice using a combination PROMPT and DTTC during high-quality repetition tasks, built into playful, child-centered activities. Parents are always part of the process, and I love collaborating with school SLPs, OTs, PTs, ABA teams, and anyone supporting your child’s success. Each session ends with a caregiver check-in so families know exactly what we worked on and how to encourage progress at home. My goal is to make every child feel supported, capable, and excited about their communication journey!
Parents are such an integral part of CAS therapy. When determining speech targets, parent input is always incorporated. Caregivers are welcome to observe or join in sessions as desired. If caregivers are not available at the time of the session, I often use video recordings to demonstrate what we practiced in speech therapy that day including specific targets, and cueing strategies.
I am experienced in incorporating both low and high tech AAC options into my CAS speech therapy sessions. Low tech examples include options such as sign language or core boards, while high tech AAC often refers to a speech generating device. AAC is something that should be implemented early on, not only in speech, but throughout all daily activities. Throughout CAS speech therapy sessions, we often practice target words both verbally and with AAC, while also using AAC to model a variety of other concepts. Our primary goal is to increase overall communication, while decreasing frustration for the child.
