Therapy for a child with Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) is individualized, supportive, and focused on helping your child learn how to clearly say words and phrases through guided repetition and practice. We use fun, play-based activities to keep your child engaged while targeting important speech goals. Therapy is structured but flexible, always meeting your child where they are developmentally, and encouraging progress at their own pace with plenty of praise and encouragement. Family involvement is key, so I will also guide you with simple strategies to support speech at home.
During therapy, we welcome parents to observe or participate when appropriate so you can see strategies in action. After each session, we provide a brief summary of what was worked on and how your child responded. We also share specific activities, words, or routines you can practice at home—designed to fit into your everyday life. We encourage regular communication and are always available to answer questions or adjust our approach based on your feedback. This team-based approach helps your child make the most progress and feel supported both in and outside of therapy.
I always introduce AAC in a positive, supportive way, teach the child how to use it during motivating activities, and guide families so they feel comfortable using it at home too. Because while these tools are never a replacement for speech, AAC does help bridge the gap to help reduce frustration and build confidence.
