At Essential Pediatrics in therapy for Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS), we focus on helping your child learn how to plan and coordinate the movements needed for clear speech. Sessions are fun, engaging, and very interactive—we use games, visual cues, and repetition to practice sounds, words, and phrases. The therapy is tailored to your child’s specific needs, and we work step-by-step to build their confidence and accuracy in speaking. Our goal is to make talking easier and more natural for your child, while keeping them motivated and supported every step of the way.
Parents play a viral role in the therapy process. Parents are viewed as partners in your child’s progress. During sessions, I’ll explain what we’re working on and why, so that you feel confident supporting your child at home. I’ll share simple strategies, practice ides, and feedback after each session so you know what to reinforce during everyday routines including mealtimes, play, or reading together. If you’re unsure about how to help, I’m here to guide you, during therapy sessions, one on one trainings, weekly phone calls. Your involvement helps to create consistency and supports progress.
AAC is a tool often used to help support children develop articulate language. AAC, can include picture boards, picture symbols, gestures, apps, and/or high tech devices that support your child’s ability to communicate their wants, needs and ides. Using AAC used in conjunction with motor based therapy has reduced frustration and supports language growth. AAC systems are chosen based on your child’s needs. Once established, you and your child are both taught how to use it in your daily life. The goal is to provide a voice for your child, in whatever works best for them.
