Incorporating caregivers into the therapy process for speech or language disorders is crucial for ensuring the generalization of targeted skills. While focusing on direct treatment with your child, I will also prioritize educating you about childhood apraxia of speech and the therapeutic approaches I'm using. I believe that working closely with caregivers as an integral part of the treatment team is essential to achieving the best outcomes.
Caregivers will be included in each step of the process from evaluation, to treatment targets, and generalization of skills.
One of my passions within this field is augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). I am a strong advocate for the total communication approach, which focuses on finding a functional communication method tailored to each child's needs. I have experience creating and using both no-tech and low-tech options, as well as securing high-tech speech-generating devices for children with a variety of diagnoses and communication abilities. I would be happy to support your child in exploring different communication methods until we find the best fit for them to effectively express themselves.
