CONGRATULATIONS TALI KELLERSTEIN, MA, MHSC, S-LP(C), PROMPT Cert.!

Congratulations to Tali Kellerstein, MA, MHSC, S-LP(C), PROMPT Cert., for graduating from the Apraxia Kids Intensive Training Institute (Apraxia Boot Camp)!

Tali has been a Speech-Language Pathologist for over 15 years. Prior to going into Private Practice full-time in 2015, she worked for a decade in the speech program at The Speech and Stuttering Institute. Here she gained extensive experience running therapy groups for children with motor speech and/or language disorders. The Speak Boutique is her award-winning private practice, providing creative and engaging speech therapy services and products. Tali offers virtual assessment and therapy to children 4 years and older with speech sound disorders.

Tali is committed to making information about speech sound production and acquisition accessible to parents, educators, and children. To this end, her YouTube channel (The Speak Boutique) presents tips and ideas for parents and professionals. Tali’s product line builds on her motor-based naturalistic language/literacy-rich therapy style where speech targets are embedded in activities such as books, story retell and games. Her book “Party Animals! A Wild Collection of Speech Sound Poems” was launched in 2020, and since then the product line has grown to include the “Speech Sounds by Age” Poster, “What’s the Story?” Story Telling Cards, and “What’s that Sound?” Speech Sound Cards.

Tali has guest been a guest lecturer at The University of Toronto, and recently presented with Beth Poss and Christopher Bugaj at the ASHA convention. Tali is PROMPT certified and proud to be Recognized for Advanced Training in Childhood Apraxia of Speech by Apraxia Kids.

Apraxia Kids: What are the top 3 things you learned from this training experience?
Tali: Through boot camp I gained:  1) Much greater familiarity with CAS related research.  2) A broader set of tools/strategies for the assessment.  3) A deeper understanding of Principles of Motor Learning and their relevance to treating CAS specifically and Speech Sound Disorders in general.

Apraxia Kids: How did the boot camp experience change or expand your network of colleagues/friends?
Tali: From both the mentors and participants, I’m so grateful for the wonderful colleagues in Canada and the US that I connected with through boot camp. Truly grateful for this incredible international opportunity.

Apraxia Kids: How have you implemented the knowledge you gained at boot camp?
Tali: Boot camp has given me a new lens and tools through which to evaluate the children I am working with. The Mayo 10 worksheet, for example, is now a fixture in my assessment kit. Completing the case study also helped refine and consolidate the knowledge I gained.

Apraxia Kids: What is an example of how you have been able to (or plan to) use your expertise as a local resource/support for other professionals and/or families since attending the intensive training?
Tali: Next month, I will be presenting on Speech Sound Disorders to a local S-LP practice, and am eager to share some of the knowledge I gained at boot camp.

Apraxia Kids: What would you say to someone considering applying to boot camp next round?
Tali: Don’t hesitate! This is a phenomenal learning experience like no other.
