Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing (DTTC): A Treatment Approach for Severe CAS

Course Abstract:

This webinar provides a description of a treatment approach for childhood apraxia of speech (CAS). The method is called Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing (DTTC) which was developed primarily for children with severe CAS.   Motivation for the method and rationale for the key elements is discussed. The presenter delivers a detailed description of the method, including a description of and rationale for the hierarchy and cueing strategies used.  The dynamic nature of DTTC is emphasized, with suggestions for fidelity measurement.  The webinar will include discussion regarding the  important decisions one makes when implementing DTTC and the principles of motor learning (PML) which motivated their use.

Presented By: Dr. Edythe Strand, PhD., CCC-SLP, BC-NCD

This course is offered for 0.15 ASHA CEU’s (Introductory level, Professional area)

Learning Objectives

  • The viewer will be able to describe the rationale for use of DTTC
  • The view will be able to list and describe those for whom the method was developed
  • The viewer will be able to demonstrate administration of the DTTC hierarchy
  • The viewer will be able to describe how to implement PML when making clinical decisions in the administration of DTTC

Timed Agenda

15 minutes:     Rationale for DTTC as a treatment for children with CAS, and a Description of motor planning/programming
15 minutes:     Appropriate candidates for DTTC treatment
30 minutes:    Description of the DTTC hierarchy, cueing methods and how to use the dynamic procedures involved.
20 minutes:    Clinical Decisions regarding choice of targets, how to organize practice and provide feedback
10 minutes:     How to handle special problems in CAS treatment, including vowel accuracy and intrusive schwa
