Describe treatment approach used: Kids learn when they are having fun. My goal is to make therapy a place where children look forward to coming and enjoy the time when they are there as well as improve their speech and language goals. I use concepts and principles from dynamic temporal and tactile cueing (DTTC), the Kaufman Speech-Language Protocol (KSLP), core language, PROMPT, and melodic intonation therapy (MIT). We aim for high repetition of targets and some children come for multiple sessions/week as their schedule allows. I have games that highlight simple consonant-vowel and vowel-consonant words for each stage which are intrinsically motivating.

Describe parent/caregiver involvement: Parents are welcomed in the therapy room. I teach these games to the parents and show them how they can practice the same targets at home. In the initial stages of treatment, targets will include more blocked practice and as therapy progresses, targets will become more randomized to promote generalization.

Describe your past and current involvement in the Apraxia community? I have collaborated with other clinicians who have a variety of experiences with CAS. I have attended the Walk for Childhood Apraxia of Speech in Indianapolis. I read research articles and try to apply the findings to my sessions.
