Describe treatment approach used: My approach is eclectic based on Integral Stimulation and the principles of motor learning. It incorporates hierarchical use of multi-sensory cuing, and targets the areas of speech sound production, prosody, phonological awareness/literacy and production of longer more complex sequences. I begin with where the child is and build up to increase the child’s overall ability to functionally communicate intelligibly.

Describe parent/caregiver involvement: I require that parents are involved in watching therapy sessions and practicing at home within their everyday routine. I ask for their involvement in the planning of functional targets and to motivate their child to improve their communication skills. During the summer CAS camp, parents are involved in parent support/information meetings each time they come for therapy.

Describe your past and current involvement in the Apraxia community? I have helped support the local Apraxia Walks for several years now by volunteering and bringing a team of SLP students to volunteer. I also volunteered prior to and at the CASANA convention in 2017 in setting up, registration, cleaning up and “the Doctor is in” booth talking with parents. I also present workshops on diagnosing and treating childhood apraxia at the state, national and international levels.
