Describe treatment approach used: The approach used at Bright Start Therapies Inc., for the treatment of CAS includes the following:
After an intensive assessment, we create a plan of treatment utilizing specific targets in the following ratio for a therapy session. 75% targets that are emerging sounds or combinations of sounds that have an accuracy rate of less than 80% accuracy, 15% that are easy targets that have 80% or higher accuracy , and 10% of targets that are difficult or new targets within each session. We treat treat and track each phoneme separately. For example, we may work on the phoneme /b/ at the CVC level but work on /f/ in isolation and work on /g/ at the CV level. We track each phoneme on a self devised consonant inventory tracking sheet to see the progression of each sound individually. We strive for 500-600 productions within a 45 minute session or 400+ productions in a thirty minute session. The targets are tracked on our self devised tracking sheets and new targets are updated on a weekly basis. We increase the complexity of the speech sound targets as the child reaches a desired accuracy speech production level. We include a functional word, phrase or sentence list depending on the child level and capability for increasing intelligibility. In addition to this we may also include goals that foster the use of a AAC device, sign Language or PECS cards.

Describe parent/caregiver involvement: Parents are given a packet of resources that include web resources, book resources, printed articles, and seminar information. Parents are given opportunities to join in peer support groups and on-site training seminars. Parents are given weekly homework with specific targets of sounds with examples of ideas to elicit the sounds or copied materials currently being used in the therapy sessions. Weekly consultation of progress and goals as well as Collaboration with all professionals working with the child is encouraged and sharing of information in all the child's academic and therapy settings.
