Describe treatment approach used: My overall treatment for children with Childhood Apraxia of Speech is intense but supportive therapy sessions that incorporate the principles of motor planning with emphasis on correct articulator placement, movement and sequencing of sounds into syllables and words. The use of multi-sensory cues for the development of a core vocabulary of words that the child is developmentally capable of saying, are functional and highly motivating for the child to learn. I frequently incorporate movement into therapy and motivational play with my primary goal being to obtain as many oral responses as possible during my session. I use a Communication Book to keep a record of sounds introduced with syllable work and inventory of core vocabulary for the parents to practice at home.

Describe parent/caregiver involvement: My parents are involved in my therapy program by:
1. Observation of their child’s sessions to learn strategies and techniques to facilitate production of speech targets.
2. Providing information about important speech targets that their child will be motivated to learn.
3. Providing information to coordinate communication targets that support their child’s performance in their academic setting.
4. Home Practice Book for generalization and maintenance of acquired words, phrases and sentences.
