Describe treatment approach used: I always take a family centred, total communication approach and would want to explore AAC options low tech, gesture based, or technology to support kids to have functional communication. Working in a play based intensive way to promote early functional communication and vocabulary building. I use a combination of theoretical approaches including both motor-programming and linguistic approaches, and making use of multi-sensory inputs, with the overall focus be that children have forms of functional meaningful communication.

Describe parent/caregiver involvement: Parents are involved from the outset of therapy and assessment. They are members of the therapy team and provide valuable feedback regarding their child, their daily lives, and functional goal setting and outcomes. Parents participate in all sessions and are encouraged to facilitate speech practice during the sessions. They are coached during sessions as to how to incorporate speech practice into their days (functionally) and are encouraged to provide feedback.

Describe your past and current involvement in the Apraxia community? I have been involved in the Apraxia community since 2006, when I became an SLP. I have attended numerous conferences and supported numerous families in advocating for services and support. I have participated in Apraxia walks as well as campaigns increasing awareness of CAS. I have also been involved in providing AAC assessment and advocacy over the last few years, specifically for children with CAS.
