Describe treatment approach used: I use a multi-kinesthetic approach with facial prompts (PROMPT), visual oral placement cues (Kaufman Speech to Language Protocol), and verbal cues to facilitate principles of motor learning. All treatment plans are custom to the child’s needs and begin with shorter syllables and grow into longer target word productions. Parent training is provided when the child has demonstrated proficiency with direct imitation skills and no longer needs facial or visual prompts. Home programming can shorten therapy duration when completed regularly. Prosody training is also addressed. An AAC (Augmentative Alternative Communication) device may be used to facilitate communication. Sign language may be taught to young toddlers while they develop and improve oral motor skills. All therapy incorporates the use of toys as positive reinforcement for producing target sounds and words. Feedback on performance is given for every target and a toy reinforcement is given even when the target is not perfect to keep motivation high and frustration levels low.

Describe parent/caregiver involvement: All parents observe EVERY session on the iPad wifi system in my clinic. All are given home programming of mastered skills to practice at home to improve generalization and carryover. New skills are not sent home. Parent are asked to demonstrate the skill and have to be able to ID correct vs. incorrect targets before sent home.
