Describe treatment approach used: Once the child's verbal imitation ability is established and a speech sound inventory is determined, I usually start working on simple syllable shapes using sounds that the child can say and making sure the vowels are produced accurately. I use a variety of multisensory cues (Easy Does It Turtle Vowel shapes, various consonant cue cards, magnetic letters, printed word or drawing, etc) and incorporate the principles of motor learning. I provide lots of feedback and a variety of cues as needed. I find the DTTC approach works best with most of my clients and is easy to teach parents to use when practicing at home.

Describe parent/caregiver involvement: Parents are encouraged to attend and participate in all of the sessions. They learn what their child can do and what is difficult for their child. They learn about CAS and better understand their child's needs and frustrations as well as how to help them. The parents are provided with home practice activities which they are encouraged to do on a daily basis with their child. The parents are necessary in treatment and a huge part of the child's progress.
