Describe treatment approach used: I use the multi-modal PROMPT approach to first evaluate and then create an appropriate, individualized treatment plan for each child I work with. Treatment plans include developmentally appropriate, achievable short term and long term goals, taking into consideration your child's language needs and abilities. I collaborate with parents and families to choose appropriate and functional target words (lexicon) based on each child's motor planning abilities with use of highly motivating reinforcers. I use sensory strategies, tactile PROMPTS, and visuals to create engaging and fun activities that help your child's language grow!
Describe parent/caregiver involvement: Parents are highly involved in the diagnosis and treatment of children with CAS. From gathering background information to assisting with developing an appropriate and functional treatment plan. Parents are asked to support the lexicon targeted in therapy to promote carry-over in distributed practice.
Describe your past and current involvement in the Apraxia community? During graduate school, I volunteered with Duquesne University's Speech, Language and Hearing Department for several CASANA events. I continue to pursue continuing education opportunities in the areas of apraxia of speech, and have completed my PROMPT Certification.
