Describe treatment approach used: I use play to create motivating and meaningful opportunities for the child to communicate. Without the pressure, the child's communication attempts can then be "shaped" into more accurate responses. Parent and caregiver participation is another component of my sessions so that the strategies can be carried over at home for increased success. Since young children learn through their senses, I use a "mult-sensory" approach. This means I incorporate several senses in addition to hearing the word such as sight and touch. I also incorporate movement since this increases engagement and learning in young children. Finally, I implement a variety of strategies from treatment approached I am trained in such as Kaufman Speech to Language, PROMPT, and DTTC, while implementing principles of motor learning. Moving language development forward in addition to speech is another primary goal in my sessions.

Describe parent/caregiver involvement: My background is in early intervention and preschool. Modeling for parents (and teachers) how to help their child's speech and language skills develop and making sure they feel comfortable implementing the strategies at home is an integral part of my therapy sessions. Parents always receive a follow-up note summarizing what we worked on each session with written suggestions.
