- Azzurri Speech Therapy
I utilize a play-based approach to engage and motivate children while they are working hard on their speech. My treatment approach utilizes the Principles of Motor Learning, Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing (DTTC) approach, PROMPT, and use of successive approximations (e.g. KSLP). I create activities around the child’s interest and abilities and combine these activities with mass practice of target words. This allows for the child to have frequent practice and take short breaks while staying engaged and motivated. I focus on what is functional and important for the child and family, and make sure to build a strong rapport and trust with the child and family. I use AAC (e.g. sign language, PECS, high-tech device) when necessary to support language growth as speech progresses.
I have participated in the Apraxia Walk and am a part of apraxia support groups on Facebook.
I emphasize families being a part of our sessions in order to promote best carryover. Parents are an integral part of my therapy process. Parents are educated on strategies and are given opportunities to practice strategies so that they are able to carryover therapy goals into daily activities and at-home practice.
Depending on the particular child, I use PECS, sign language, or high-tech devices to support communication so that they are able to communicate functionally and progress their language skills while improving their speech skills.
