I approach each child as an individual and cater my approach per their specific needs and abilities. I strive to make each target meaningful and functional. Fun and functional are keys to successful intervention. I use a variety of evidence based treatments (DTTC, ReST) per the child's needs/ability to handle such treatments, along with 15 + years of clinical experience in thoughtfully selecting treatment approach, target sounds, words and phrases. I am frequently assessing current levels to adapt therapy targets as needed.
Apraxia has always been an interest of mine. I attended the National Conference on Childhood Apraxia of Speech, and often attend continuing education courses led by leaders in the field. I have like-minded clinicians and mentors that I discuss caseload with.
Parents are a vital component of successful therapy for CAS. I provide them with home practice, direct modeling and instruction for home practice and invite them to be active participants in both planning of functional vocabulary as well as in therapy.
