My treatment approach focusing on helping the child achieve the best intelligibility possible. I incorporate instruction about positioning (with use of various hand cues) of the mouth, tongue, lips, or jaw as well as progressive approximation techniques to shape the best productions. I use the Kaufman Speech to Language Protocol to focus on the child’s motor-speech skills, shaping the consonants, vowels, and syllable shapes. Various cues are used and then faded.
I have worked with children for 15 years and continue to learn and grow with a variety of CAS cases. I currently treat several young children with CAS and enjoy watching these children progress and be able to communicate with family and friends. I plan on attending and growing my knowledge base in CAS to continue to serve these young children.
Parents and I discuss highly motivating yet functional words the child prefers. Parents are given information on goals addressed and progression made. Many times parents are sent home with cards to work on and simplification of sounds if needed. Parents are welcome to observe sessions and be involved during therapy.
