Overall Treatment Approach:
This will be based on the assessment results and severity. For severe CAS - regardless of language level - we implement the best AAC option (based on visual performance and fine motor skills) so that the client can express him/herself. For more moderate CAS, we target CV/VC syllable structure containing sounds in repertoire and novel sounds produced in same place or manner. We also create functional list of words to teach - which may include both familiar and novel speech sounds. We incorporate any combination of cuing - tactile, temporal, visual, verbal - using whatever resonates with the client. We provide in-home services, and encourage the family/parents/guardians to participate in the sessions. There is an ongoing, dynamic conversation between our clinicians and our families so that we are using consistent cuing and also working on the most meaningful goals for them.

Percent of CAS cases: 15

Parent Involvement:
We provide in-home therapy, so our families/parents are always present or encouraged to be present. They are directly observing the therapy, or listening from a nearby room. We will call them in if we want to share a success or cuing strategy. We also encourage them to try a technique/strategy/cue while we are present, so we can provide feedback. We download after each session, and also have a Client Portal where the families can access all of their session notes (with data). We send follow-up emails after each session with suggested homework.

Community Involvement:
None other than advocating for clients and teaching families/clients how to use AAC.
