Overall Treatment Approach:
I have 17 years experience treating CAS. I worked for and trained under Nancy Kaufman in Westbloomfield, MI. I use the Kaufman Speech Praxis method, but have added tactile cues when needed. I vary my treatment approach depending on what the child needs. Expressive and receptive language skills are always on my radar and targeted once speech production is under way. I introduce early literacy skills and AAC techniques early on in the therapy process, to help the child become academically successful. My goal for each therapy session is to not only get the maximum responses from the child, but to train the family so that the child will be successful in the home environment.

Percent of CAS cases: 40

Parent Involvement:
I always incorporate the family in my therapy process. I like for as many family members as possible to observe and learn the techniques. A good support system is not only desired, but imperative to the success of the child. Parents are given a strong home plan and guided through the therapy process. Parents are the experts on their child.

Community Involvement:
I have a private FB Page for my parents to converse and ask questions with other parents of children with CAS. We try to have playdates throughout the year. My private practice has had a team and encouraged parents to form teams for our Rocket City Walk for Apraxia. I point parents to the Apraxia Kids support system.
