Overall Treatment Approach:
I incorporate motor learning principles into treatment. I focus on a high number of targets within short and frequent sessions. I use DTTC and PROMPT in my therapy. I include goals and strategies to support prosody.
Percent of CAS cases: 45
Parents attend sessions and are provided with homework (targets that are easily and corrected produced by children on my caseload). They are involved in the planning and selection of functional target words and phrases.
I use the ASHA guidelines and provide examples of the child's speech to parents I discuss/explain motor planning I discuss/explain differences in treatment approaches I also refer parents to the apraxia kids website
I serve as a volunteer for Speech and Audiology Canada. In my role as a volunteer, I am responsible for selecting speakers for conferences. I actively review the research and select speakers in the area of CAS. I am working with a parent of a child with CAS to organize a walk for apraxia in Calgary, Canada. I am the assistant walk coordinator. I am also assisting a parent with fundraising for Apraxia Kids by selling t shirts designed to raise awareness of apraxia with all of the funds going to Apraxia Kids.
