Overall Treatment Approach:
My treatment approach is designed to meet each child's individual needs and personality, but is always based on the principals of Evidence Based Practice (EBP). Therapy should be provided as frequently as possible, especially in the early years. My therapy sessions aim to target functional skills in both structured tasks and play-based activities. My vocabulary targets are based on both the child's ability, but also what would be most useful for them in their home, community and school settings. I utilize a motor-speech hierarchy, usually beginning with syllable shapes, gradually working into different sound combinations and more complex targets. I prefer to choose a handful of targets per session and promote maximal repetitions and drills throughout. Tactile cues are provided throughout my sessions.

Parent Involvement:
I encourage parent/guardian involvement, and aim to ensure they feel comfortable working with their own child at home. Parents play a key role in the foundation for their child's success. In the school setting, I meet with parents before and after school hours in conferences to teach them the strategies I am using in therapy, including tactile cues they can provide their child. Daily or weekly handouts, including the child's target sounds addressed in therapy, are sent home, with examples of how the parent can incorporate these skills in their home. In addition, I work with a handful of clients in the private sector. In those sessions, parents are encouraged to be involved in each therapy session. I model techniques to the parents and act as a "coach" so that they feel confident working with their child when I am not there.

Community Involvement:
I currently work with students and their families in both the public school and private settings. I work collaboratively with families, staff and members of the IEP team to advocate for these students' needs and ensure our community has an awareness and understanding of CAS.
