Overall Treatment Approach:
When working with children with CAS, I use an individualized multimodal approach. I am trained in a variety of specialized treatment methodologies, including PROMPT, Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing for Speech Motor Learning, and the Kaufman Speech Praxis Treatment Approach. Based on initial evaluations and caregiver input, I formulate goals (short term and long term) to increase the child's intelligibility to familiar and unfamiliar listeners. At the beginning of every session I will check-in with caregivers to find out about any progress/changes or concerns since our last treatment session. A variety of individualized play-based/structured activities are then completed in order to provide the opportunity for maximal practice of child specific target words and/or phrases. Using any or all of the cueing systems, I provide support and direct feedback to improve the child's intelligibility to make him/her a more effective communicator. At the end of every session, progress is reviewed and "homework" assignments (when appropriate) are given to enhance generalization of mastered and emerging skills.

Parent Involvement:
Parents are encouraged to be active participants in therapy. It is important that parents recognize that they are their child's first and best teacher and their involvement in therapy is integral to their child's success. When first creating short term and long term goals for a child, parents provide insightful information about what is functional and meaningful to their child. If possible, I encourage parents to sit in on therapy sessions to better understand what to look for and how to better assist their child during daily routines. When appropriate, "homework" is sent home to support generalization of skills.

Community Involvement:
I provide evaluations and treatment to children with apraxia and continue to further my knowledge by participating in continuing education courses.
