Overall Treatment Approach:
I begin with establishing functional communication with signs/AAC for children with severe CAS who are nonverbal or minimally verbal. I work with parents to establish a list of early word targets and modify/simplify the words as needed to fit the child's current repertoire of sounds/word shapes. I will then work on established sounds within new word shapes or new sounds in already established word shapes, using multi-sensory cues, fading cues as appropriate. Once the child is imitating at least 2 syllables at a time, I start scripting simple phrases into play for them to imitate with approximations in order to build expressive language. Parents are always involved and trained on a home program during or after each session.

Percent of CAS cases: 15

Parent Involvement:
Parents sit in on sessions when possible. When this is not feasible, they participate in a "consult" at the end of the session, during which time they are trained on a home program for carryover of skills.

Community Involvement:
Participated in the Apraxia Walk in my community last year (October 2016).
