Overall Treatment Approach:
I utilize Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing methods during my treatment sessions. I focus on incorporating principles of motor learning. To do this, I aim for the highest number of practice trials of a targeted syllable structure or sound as possible during the session, start with blocked practice (e.g., working on only 1 sound or syllable pattern at a time) and then move to random practice (e.g., working on multiple sounds or syllable patterns at a time), and reduce the rate and the specificity of feedback on productions as the child progresses.
Percent of CAS cases: 5%
I make every effort to have the parents present in the room for every session with a child with CAS. I always train parents on how to implement DTTC at home and provide word lists for home practice. I involve parents in selection of AAC methods when needed and train them on incorporating AAC at home.
I am subscribed to the Apraxia Kids newsletter, am planning to attend the National CAS Conference in 2019, and have ambitions to attend the CAS Intensive Training Institute (Boot Camp) when it is next offered.
