Overall Treatment Approach:
When CAS is the primary challenge then the approach I use will be focused on improving speech motor planning in real words to boost intelligibility. I'll use an integral stimulation approach, incorporation of principles of motor learning.

Percent of CAS cases: 30

Parent Involvement:
I'll start w/the SPAA-C to get their perspective & goals. Parents observe sessions, help select stimuli, and take part in homework. They're the secret weapons!

Parent Explanation:
I define speech and language simply. Then I use the simplified Levelt model to help them understand where CAS lies in relation to other dev dx. I give examples of CAS errors and talk about the importance of treating it as a movement disorder using real and powerful words to help their child become an independent communicator.

Community Involvement:
   - Trained by Dr. Edythe Strand - CASANA Apraxia Boot camp graduate - Presented at CASANA national conference twice - Presented two webinars for CASANA - Teach CAS at Emerson College and have taught Motor Speech Disorders at Northeastern Univ.
