Overall Treatment Approach:
The goals will depend on the child's specific needs. I like to ask the parents regarding any specific word that might be a priority. When selecting words, depending on the child, I would base my selection in different aspects: - if the word contains phonemes that are easily stimulated for the child. - any phoneme contrast that the child my need to develop. - motivation to learn the word. - acceptable approximations. - the type of prompting/cueing the child would need. I usually begin treatment with high frequency drills of specific target words that have been chosen based on the list above. As the child begins to master this, I then begin a generalization phase that may include random trials and variations in production (e.g. pitch changes, loudness changes, etc.)

Percent of CAS cases: 20

Parent Involvement:
When it comes to my kids with apraxia, parents have to be really engaged in the process. The follow up that they provide at home is key. That is why I usually provide with follow up activities that they can practice daily at home. I also train them on how to cue the child, based on what is working for him/her at therapy.

Community Involvement:
I have taught CAS courses to parents, Speech Therapy students, and professionals. I have provided free screenings and teacher orientations in Puerto Rico.
