Overall Treatment Approach:
My treatment includes the use of pretend play and toys to encourage a high number of task repetition and spontaneous production practice. We will use repetitive books for short phrases. I provide a very structured routine which includes a holistic view of the child by setting the expectation with routines and rapport with initial goals of attention, imitation, following directions for our younger clients. We work our way to high number of practice. I will give specific instruction to the child regarding the oral articulators and set the children up for success with communication. I believe in working in more difficult complexity because if the child can say "yo quiero pelota" (3 words, 3 morphemes, 6 syllables), the child will be able to say "I want ball" (3 words, 3 morphemes, 3 syllables).

Percent of CAS cases: 75

Parent Involvement:
I encourage our parents to participate in the session as homework is provided after each session. I coach parents during our sessions and point out communication attempts that may be otherwise unintelligible to the untrained ear. The expectation is that short practices several times a day will help generalize practice at home in order to build to the next level.

Community Involvement:
I co-developed a program to treat apraxia called Vowel Cueing for Expressive Language. We have trained SLPs, SLP-Assistants, and other professionals to use this program. I am also member of the Apraxia Kids Facebook page.
