Overall Treatment Approach:
I follow the Dynamic Temporal Tactile Cueing (DTTC) approach. I select target words that are stimulable and functional for the child. Each word we work on in the four stages: Simultaneous Production, Direct Imitation, Delayed Imitation, and Spontaneous Production. I use hand and verbal cues heavily at the beginning but fade them out as success of production becomes evident. I bring the cues back in whenever I observe a regression. I only work on a specific set of words and/or phrases at a time and probe those periodically throughout treatment. We do several modified blocked practices so as to ensure several trials of target words. To help with generalization I occasionally randomize the trials.

Parent Involvement:
Parents and I discuss possible, functional words to address in therapy as new sets of words are needed. I also demonstrate to parents how to use hand cues when working on speech at home. We discuss the four stages of DTTC and I update them as words progress through the four stages, particularly when words are supposed to be addressed spontaneously.

Community Involvement:
Primarily, I have been involved in the Apraxia community through the children with CAS who I treat. I educate parents on the disorder and how research shows what kind of therapy is most successful. I also participated in a workshop by Dr. Edythe Strand which has allowed me to stay in touch with other speech therapists who work with children with CAS. Upon completing this workshop, I gave a presentation on DTTC to other speech therapists at the school district where I was working during that time.
