Overall Treatment Approach:
:I apply motor learning principles. As I teach them and I constantly read on CAS, I ‘m inspired by DTTC, multi-sensory approach, PRISM (Maas), hierarchical approach (Velleman), etc. First I make a rigorous assessment and a good treatment plan. I think ‘syllable’ and try rapidly to create variability with the phonemes and vowels from the child’s phonetic inventory. I aim for a high level of intensity in treatment without forgetting the pleasure. I choose specifics words according to the objectives, I work one level at a time (phoneme or syllable), I choose functional words and a good number a depending on the stage of motor acquisition (acquisition- transfer- generalization). I use multi sensory cues to help children reach the target. I provide cues and then reduce them to allow the child to succeed independently. I try to create the best practice condition with intensity, a lot amount of practice and a good amount of feedback, depending on the motor stage: acquisition, transfer or generalization. I use strong reinforcers for kids. Here in Quebec it is difficult to see children more than once a week but I work with parents et caregiver with a core vocabulary book and in teaching them techniques to help children to communicate more and produce more words.

Parent Involvement:
First we talk a lot about the particularities of CAS. We advance together to make a good diagnosis. We ask for help if needed to Occupational therapist or neuropsychologist, social worker, etc. Parents (or grandparent) work (collaborate) with me during sessions. I try to teach them all good things that are working (!) and encourage them to try and develop their own skills. Each child has a core vocabulary book that we share also with the nursery. We find target functional words together.

Community Involvement:
I work very hard to keep me up to date for my workshop that I offer 4 times/years for French SLP. It is a 2 days workshop who is very appreciate because the CAS is still not enough known here. I think I offer a good content in my workshop with a lot of video to show assessment and intervention and with exercises to develop their skills. I still teach at Laval University and UQTR. I contributed to the research and I published a leaflet in French explaining the CAS.
