Overall Treatment Approach:
I consider the use of Augmentative-Alternative Communication early on in the process and implement it as soon as possible if appropriate. I like for the children to feel that they have a successful way to communicate while we work on the speech production targets. This reduces frustration for both the child and the parents. Our facility is working on ways to provide more frequent treatment sessions weekly for these patients in a manner that maximizes their insurance coverage.

Percent of CAS cases: 20

Parent Involvement:
Parents are involved every step of the way, particularly at the beginning of treatment. I want them to understand the goals we are addressing so that we are "on the same page" about the child's progress. I think it can be challenging, but helpful, for parents to see just how difficult it can be for their child and how frustrating it can be to have trouble communicating efficiently. I love for parents to see how successful their children can be when they are provided with the appropriate treatment! It is empowering for child and parent.

Community Involvement:
I am a relatively new clinician and look forward to more involvement in the apraxia community. Our facility provides more information to parents on Apraxia Awareness Day to spread the word about this topic. Our facility treats many patients with CAS and I enjoy supporting the patients and their families in my role.
