Overall Treatment Approach:
Working mainly as a school-based therapist, the majority of treatment is implemented in school. When possible, families are welcome to meet me at the school or book appointments at our office so that they can become more involved in their child's therapy. Since completing the Alberta Health Services and Apraxia Kids intensive training, I am implementing the following treatment approaches more often: multisensory cueing, Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing, selecting fewer targets, playing with prosody, and adding vowel and word shape goals. in addition to consonant goals
Percent of CAS cases: 4
Parent involvement varies from family to family based on their ability, desires, and needs. Parents are welcome to attend therapy sessions at the office or with the SLP at the school, and are then provided with specific practice targets. Parents who attend sessions are encouraged to join in activities. Parents who are unable to attend sessions with their child, are welcome to contact me via text, email, or phone for home support and updates. In these cases, parents are provided with treatment updates sent home from school.
I am currently involved in a community of practice within Alberta Health Services to support programming for CAS. I am also available as a mentor within our zone to support other SLPs and their clients with CAS.
