Overall Treatment Approach:
I use a multi-faceted, multi-sensory approach. I've found PROMPT to be very helpful for many children, and that is generally used heavily at the beginning of treatment. The Kaufman approach also helps me determine syllable shapes to target. Additionally, being in a sensory clinic allows me the freedom to incorporate lots of movement into sessions to help with regulation and engagement.

Parent Involvement:
Parents are welcomed and encouraged into therapy sessions. I try to provide parent education/explanation throughout sessions in which parents are involved, and parents are invited to join in games and activities as appropriate. When parents do not sit in on the sessions, the last several minutes of each session are dedicated to parent education, discussing not just what we did, but how it applies to the specific issue we're working on, and several ways in which the parents can carry over that work at home.

Community Involvement:
In addition to working with families in the clinic, I have participated in 1 apraxia walk and am looking forward to participating in another one this fall. I have also created Facebook and blog posts related to apraxia on behalf of my clinic.
