Overall Treatment Approach:
My therapy utilizes an individualized, multi-sensory approach that focuses on treating the whole child. With over 20 years of experience treating children from birth to school age, I have learned to incorporate all aspects of a child’s development into therapy, including play skills, sensory-motor skills, cognition, social-emotional development and physical development. As a PROMPT certified clinician, treatment involves using a tactile-kinesthetic approach, as well as auditory and visual modeling. As motor movements of the articulators are targeted, speech sounds are practiced in both in isolation and in sound sequences to form words and phrases. Massed practice is used at the beginning of our sessions with distributive practice used throughout our sessions. Target words and phrases are chosen that are functional for the child, with activities that both motivate the child and incorporate other areas of the child’s development. When I have a child that is not receptive to PROMPT (possible due to tactile defensiveness), I use the principles of motor learning to create my goals and activities. I work hard to address all the developmental areas while working with my clients. Therapy is done through play, targeting small successive steps so that the child experiences success and is motivated to participate fully and make steady progress.

Parent Involvement:
A child’s family is an integral part of my therapy and a child’s success. I not only want the family to know what we are doing in therapy, but to understand why we are doing what we do. With an Early Intervention background, I find that parents who participate in therapy are able to carryover therapeutic activities into other environments successfully. Educating and empowering families is an integral part of therapy.

Community Involvement:
I have always worked with children with CAS as well as other disabilities. My involvement has increased as I began working towards my PROMPT certification. I have mentored other professionals that are involved with the children on my caseload as well as colleagues. I have also become more involved on social media, acting as a resource for information for parents and professional alike.
