Overall Treatment Approach:
I use a multi-sensory/multi-modality approach for treating childhood apraxia of speech where I incorporate auditory, visual, tactile and kinesthetic cues to facilitate motor planning. I establish functional vocabulary to practice in therapy and at home. The focus is on a small set of words with mass practice presented in a hierarchical approach. I use flash cards, toys, puzzles, actions figures, animals, vehicles, and books as stimulus items. I incorporate play and give attention to prosody as speech and language skills develop.

Parent Involvement:
Parents are integral to every step of the therapy process. Within every session, we discuss successes and challenges that have occurred between sessions and a plan to address these. Word lists are shared with families, and modified for special events in the child’s life. This makes learning speech meaningful to the child. Successful cueing is modeled for parents. I also love to have parents show me how they target a goal at home either in person or through videos, and then feedback is provided.

Community Involvement:
My involvement in the apraxia community is in supporting the family and children on my caseload. I am excited to be a part of Apraxia Kids to continue to do this wonderful work
