Overall Treatment Approach:
My treatment approach is based on each child's individual skills and ability. Early in therapy, I consider the child's consonant and vowel inventory, current syllable shapes, current vocabulary and information from the family regarding the child's preferences and needs to develop a small group of targets to work on in our sessions. I recommend more frequent, shorter sessions, but work with the patient and family with scheduling based on their needs as well. I vary the level of cueing depending on the child's needs.

Percent of CAS cases: 47

Parent Involvement:
Parents/Caregivers are consistently involved in each treatment session. They take part in treatment activities. I involve parents and caregivers in discussion to help in the development of target word lists and activities that will motivate his/her child. Parents/Caregivers demonstrate strategies in our sessions and are given specific home practice. I continuously have open conversation with parents and caregivers about progress, struggles, etc.

Community Involvement:
I have volunteered in previous Apraxia Walks in my local area over the last few years. Many of my patients and families participate and I feel that it's important for them to see my support outside of our treatment sessions. Unfortunately, I was out of town for the 2017 walk and was unable to attend. I attended the 2016 National Conference in Illinois. I have taken part in webinars offered by Apraxia-Kids (formerly CASANA). I have completed other continuing education opportunities related to CAS.
