Overall Treatment Approach:
It is important to develop consistent targets that are meaningful to the child. My treatment sessions focus around multiple repetitions of words and phrases that allow for practice on the transitions between consonants and vowels in order to systematically build intelligible speech. Prosody (the inflectional changes that happen in speech) is typically an early target in treatment. Therapy ALWAYS feels fun and natural! I enjoy building play routines into our practice so that kids feel a lot of success from the start!
Percent of CAS cases:
Parents are either present during the session or receive carryover techniques to use at home. I really enjoy getting the whole family involved in therapy!
As a member of the NSCT staff, I am consistently participating in continuing education opportunities, including attending individual workshops, national conferences, such as ASHA’s National Convention, or participating on online webinars. Additionally, I train graduate student clinicians and mentor Clinical Fellows as they enter the field. We provide community outreach by hosting free screenings, as well as parent workshops and professional trainings in our clinic.
