Overall Treatment Approach:
I use evidence based approach based on the principles of motor learning through the use of engaging and motivating age appropriate interactive activities to seek maximum responses of block and distributed practice. Each treatment plan is individualized based on a child's level of severity and results of dynamic motor speech exam. Plans have overlapping components of parental involvement and education, use of multi sensory cue hierarchy, progression and advancement through all phonotactic shapes with variegated vowel and consonant movement gestures, attention to vowel to vowel and consonant to consonant co articulation for development of varied prosody, focused attention, descriptive feedback, and maximum practice responses per target/session through block, random or modified distributed practice. Attention to all aspects of the targeted movement pattern is integral to progress to generalized intelligible conversational speech with natural/typical prosody.

Parents are involved in the initial interview prior to evaluation and are present for the evaluation.Parents and/or caregivers are required to attend most, if not all, therapy sessions. Parents are asked to bring a notebook or device and to take notes during sessions on the specific targets being addressed and the cueing used. At the end of therapy sessions, results and treatment strategies are discussed as well coaching for the parent. Parents are encouraged to take the materials (e.g. toys, games, puzzles etc.)used in the therapy session home to provide extension of therapy in the home environment. However, with the expectation of parental involvement so the materials keep their novelty and motivation for the child.
My involvement with apraxia has been on a continuous basis since the beginning of my speech-language pathology profession. I have attended workshops and conferences specifically related with CAS through CASANA, ASHA and TSHA. In addition, I volunteered for the Apraxia Walk in Dallas, 2017.
