Overall Treatment Approach:
After determining their level of functioning, I begin to practice at that level. While I use the Kaufman protocol to target specific CV productions, I also target the functional words that are most important to the family. As the approximations of the functional words become more accurate, the stress of communicating is often reduced. While working on accurate sound/words productions, I'm also determining the child's easiest form of communication. If that means they are using an iPad to let us know their wants/needs, then we will use the iPad until verbal communication is more accurate and functional.

Percent of CAS cases: 10

Parent Involvement:
I have the parents write up a list of 10 - 20 functional words that are the most important. I explain that I want the child to become a successful communicator, and these are words that are motivating and a significant part of the child's/families' life. I often give the family 5 words to focus on at home, and ask them to let me know how it's going and how the approximations for the words are coming along.

Community Involvement:
I do not have much involvement with the apraxia community, but I'm interested in learning more.
