Overall Treatment Approach:
I start where the child is, and build from there. I use multisensory cues and repetition to form the speech motor pathways. I strive to make it fun and tailored to each child's individual needs.

Percent of CAS cases: 15

Parent Involvement:
I explain things "on the go", so to speak, as we are playing and working on speech. I demonstrate techniques and describe suggestions for home carryover.

Parent Explanation:
I like to use analogies to sports. I talk about how a golf swing is much more than a single movement and a person needs instruction on the whole sequence, especially the timing and intensity of the movements. I speak about how the cues we provide in sports often go above just the visual of "do what I do". We need to break it down to smaller pieces and then build it back up into a fluid movement. I equate that all to speech as well saying that we often need to give visual, verbal and physical cues for kids to be able to get the right order, timing and intensity needed. I especially talk about how much repetition is needed in sports movements before they become automatic as well as how learning to hit on the driving range doesn't always translate to a full round of golf. In speech that massive amount of practice is needed as well as generalization to other people and environments.

Community Involvement:
   - I participate in the Apraxia online forums - I have attended and helped at four Walk for Apraxia events - I have attended and also presented at several CASANA national conferences.
