Overall Treatment Approach:
My Treatment approach is highly influenced by my experience with and knowledge of PROMPTs for Restructuring Oral Motor Phonetic Targets (PROMPT). This approach is bottom-up and is very effective in that I know where to begin and not to start at too high of a speech motor load for the child. I choose what types of motor support (PROMPTs) that I will utilize including Parameter PROMPTs, Surface PROMPTs, Syllable PROMPTs, and Complex PROMPTs. I choose a communication focus and whether I will focus on the physical -sensory domain, cognitive-linguistic domain, and/or the social-emotional domain. I then choose speech motor goals that match my priorities which will then guide my treatment planning. I then choose speech targets to embed within my sessions starting with mass practice and then embedding these targets within functional language-based activities. I also employ strategies such as Moving Across Syllables. In sum, my overall treatment approach is highly-verbal, highly-visual, multi-sensory and tactile in nature providing as many opportunities for success, no matter how simple the task, to build confidence and willingness to attempt more .

I show parents our treatment throughout and at the end of the sessions. I give HOMEWORK! Parents know that homework and carryover of simple techniques makes it easier for the child to warm up motorically for me in the next session. I also keep speech notebook. I show parents simple PROMPTs and support that they can employ as well as simple speech motor drills such as clapping hands to match syllables. I have parents attempt these actions in front of me so that I can coach them.
I have been and am involved in the apraxia community in my own community through my practice and through many years of Early Intervention. I educate professionals, parents, doctors on what Apraxia is and how to best treat it. If referring to Apraxia Kids, I just joined! I am very involved in the PROMPT community as I regularly attend PROMPT groups even though they are all 2 hours one way. I am currently preparing for PROMPT certification after many years of using the approach .
