Overall Treatment Approach:
When treating children with CAS I will use tactile, visual and auditory cues as well as immediate feedback in all these modalities. I will utilize tools such as the tactile tubes and shapes from Talk Tools to help shape sounds as well as utilizing the sensory system to increase oral awareness for the positioning of the articulators. I frequently use the Kaufman cards to begin shaping words as well as choosing 3-5 functional words that will impact the child's everyday interactions and will work on developing the correct motor plan and once that is achieved I will then move onto practicing that motor plan at least 25 times at each therapy session.
Percent of CAS cases: 75
I engaged parents in therapy by teaching them how to do what I do everyday at their homes with their child. They will come into my therapy session with their child and learn the techniques necessary for their child to be successful at producing the prescribed functional words and will be given homework when it is appropriate based on their child's progress. We spend the last five minutes of each session discussing how the session went and what needs to be worked on the following week.
