Overall Treatment Approach:
Upon analysis of results of the evaluation, a detailed plan will be prepared, to include goals and objectives with a specified duration and recommendations for duration and frequency. A parent feedback session will be conducted to go over results of assessment and to explain and educate on treatment needs and recommendations specific to CAS. Therapy will begin focused on: 1-building from where the client is currently with speech productions to shape gradual increases in complexity and sound combinations 2-including functional sounds and/or words, depending on the current level of the client, and their current productions and abilities 3-appropriate alternative communication, depending on the cognitive and communicative status of the client 4-linguistic components of treatment, as deemed appropriate, incorporated into therapy sessions with functional speech production targets 5-parent education and training, working with the parents and caregivers to help facilitate intensive practice throughout the week 6-specific feedback to the client on productions, based on their age and cognitive needs, including a variety of proprioceptive, visual, and auditory cues 7-blocked, intensive trials and repetitions of appropriate sound combinations to build the motor plan and increase consonant/vowel transitions and syllable shapes

Percent of CAS cases: 60

Parent Involvement:
Parents are considered an integral component of the therapy process. They are involved from the initial assessment, and are assisted with education and knowledge to gain a better understanding of the characteristics of CAS, research based treatment plans, and ideas/strategies/examples on how to incorporate these into home life as well as specific practice routines to be conducted at home. Parents are able to observe or are provided video of sessions, depending on circumstances. Parents are trained on how to incorporate speech targets into home routines, and how to simplify productions as necessary for success, based on a clients' current level and ability.

Community Involvement:
Working with children demonstrating CAS over the past 15 years in a private clinic setting has allowed me the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience related to the needs of families in the apraxia community. At our clinic, we have participated in organized walks for apraxia to raise money and awareness for CAS. We have participated in ongoing continuing education to further our knowledge of how to treat and diagnose CAS. We have the opportunity to work closely with families and children with CAS, working on assisting families with accessing resources and spreading awareness through public realms, such as social media.
