The Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) on this page have completed CASANA’s Childhood Apraxia of Speech Intensive Training Institute in 2011, 2012, and 2014.  The Intensive Training Institute (fondly called Apraxia Bootcamp) was initiated in order to expand high level expertise in CAS assessment and treatment strategically throughout the United States and Canada. The SLPs in the program were selected from a large pool of applicants.  Their training included:

  • Forty clinically advanced training hours delivered by top international experts in Childhood Apraxia of Speech
  • a written exam; and
  • a final, evaluated comprehensive case presentation judged by expert faculty in Childhood Apraxia of Speech.

Theresa earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees from California State University, Chico. She provides a range of services to children with communication disorders. As a speech-language pathologist, Theresa has worked with children for over 15 years.     Laura Moorer-Cook obtained her Masters of Science in Speech Language Pathology in 1985 and has experience working in schools, Early Childhood Intervention and Adults with Disabilities.  She has been teaching and supervising at Texas Woman’s University for over 20 years, and she has specialized in Childhood Apraxia of Speech for the last 8 years. While working in the Speech and Hearing Clinic at TWU, she has diagnosed and put treatment plans in place for numerous children with CAS.   She is the co-creator of an intensive summer camp for children with CAS that is planning its fourth summer at TWU.  Laura has presented numerous times at local and state venues on CAS and severe speech sound disorders.   She is currently collecting data from children with CAS in order to publish an efficacy article.

    Lisa Klein MS CCC- SLP is the owner and director of Lisa Klein Speech, an adult and pediatric private practice located in Santa Monica, California.

    Lisa graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Language Pathology and Audiology.  She earned a Master of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Nova Southeastern University, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and is certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and licensed by the State of California.     Katie Micco is a Clinical Instructor in the Speech Production Disorder Clinic at Duquesne University where she supervises graduate students in the evaluation and treatment of children and adults with speech production disorders. She has been a practicing speech-language pathologist since 2007 in both the outpatient and educational settings.  Her work focused on the evaluation and treatment of children with speech production disorders including childhood apraxia of speech, structural speech issues and VPI, voice disorders, language disorders, and pragmatic language disorders.  Katie has presented at both the local and national levels on the topics of childhood apraxia of speech and AAC.

    Karem Isaac is an enthusiastic, dedicated and passionate pediatric SLP who has worked with children for over 21 years. Karem earned a Bachelor’s degree in Speech Pathology from Universidad del Rosario in Bogota, Colombia in 1995 and earned a specialty degree in Language development in children in 1997. She has her bilingual extension from Marymount College and completed her Master’s Degree in Communication Disorders in 2005 at Hunter College in New York. She is licensed by the state of New York and is certified by the American Speech Language Hearing Association. Karem has worked in numerous settings including early intervention home based therapy, special education schools, and private clinics specializing in pediatrics. As part of her commitment to excellence in therapy, Karem has continued to participate in continuing education coursework such as: sensory integration, play, pediatric feeding and swallowing, and language development. She has received extensive training in motor speech disorders including 2 levels of P.R.O.M.P.T. and the E-Z apraxia of speech program. She also is CASANA recognized for her advanced training and expertise in Childhood Apraxia of Speech. Karem has also been trained in the S.O.S. approach to feeding. Her primary goal is that children are functional and successful communicators.

    Gina is a pediatric speech-language pathologist with experience in a variety of communication disorders including: articulation, language, phonology, auditory processing, apraxia, autism, augmentative and alternative communication, fluency and voice. In addition to gaining expertise in these areas, Gina had the pleasure of supervising numerous students in externships from universities around the country. Gina has also managed several Clinical Fellowship Year experiences.

    Recently Gina has been interested in demonstrating the benefit of social skills groups as an evidence based practice in the treatment of children with autism spectrum disorder. Gina has conducted research in this area and have been delighted to present at ASHA and OSHLA on the topic.

    Gina also has a keen interest in Childhood Apraxia of Speech and following an intensive application process, Gina has had the privilege of being selected to attend an advanced training program sponsored by Childhood Apraxia of Speech of North America (CASANA) to further her learning and expertise in this area.

    Andy McMillin, MA, CCC-SLP, is a Clinical Associate Professor at Portland State University (PSU). Prior to joining the faculty, Andy worked as a pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist for 11 years at a non-profit clinic in Portland OR. He has worked extensively with children with complex speech sound disorders including Childhood Apraxia of Speech, children with language and literacy disorders, and people who stutter through the lifespan.     Melissa Randazzo is a licensed bilingual speech-language pathologist and an Assistant Professor for the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Adelphi University in New York.  She is passionate about working with children and their families on speech, language, and learning.  Melissa has spent time over the past few years providing speech services to children and families in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Melissa earned her Ph.D in the Neurocognition and Language Lab at Columbia University, where she used neuroimaging to study multisensory integration in speech and reading.     Brooke currently works in a small private practice in Guelph with a special interest in Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) and motor speech disorders. She offers consultation, assessment, treatment and workshops on CAS.
